Position Descriptor

This is a regular, full-time, exempt position based on 40 hours a week and is eligible for paid time off (PTO) and benefits; this position is not eligible for over-time.

Purpose of Job

The Ministry Leader of Middle School exists to lead and shepherd the Middle School Ministry of PCPC by cultivating a gospel-centered, relationally driven, prayer-dependent ministry founded on the Word of God and empowered by the Holy Spirit. This role equips middle school students to know, love, and follow Jesus Christ, partners with parents in the spiritual formation of their children, develops volunteers, and provides spiritual leadership, coaching, and supervision for Middle School Ministry staff. Through faithful teaching, disciple-making relationships, leadership development, and ministry oversight, the Ministry Leader helps extend the transforming presence of the Kingdom of the Lord Jesus Christ to students, families, and the broader church.

Connect middle school students to Jesus Christ and His Church through Gospel-centered relationships, biblical teaching, and meaningful participation in the life of the covenant community. Foster a welcoming, unified ministry that reaches and connects students from diverse backgrounds and varied levels of spiritual maturity.

Encourage students, staff, volunteers, and parents to cultivate a vibrant relationship with Christ through the means of grace; Scripture, prayer, Sacraments, worship, and participation in the local church. Lead a ministry culture that prioritizes spiritual formation and dependence upon God.

Extend
Equip students to live as followers of Christ in every area of life by helping them understand, apply, and share the Gospel with others. Encourage students to view their schools, homes, teams, and friendships as opportunities to glorify God and bear witness to Christ.

Individual Job Responsibilities

Abide in Christ and Lead Spiritually

• Cultivate a vibrant personal walk with Christ through Scripture, prayer, worship, and active participation in the life of the church.
• Serve as a spiritual example to students, staff, and volunteers through a life marked by faith, humility, repentance, integrity, and obedience to God.
• Pray regularly for ministry programming, students, families, staff and volunteers.
• Lead ministry planning and decision-making from a posture of dependence upon God and submission to His Word.

Strategic Middle School Ministry Leadership and Administration

• Work under the Director of Youth, Senior Director of Family Ministry, and Pastor to Families to fully integrate Middle School Ministry vision and outcomes with Family Ministry and PCPC vision.
• Oversee the planning and execution of all Middle School programming, including weekly Sunday morning class, small groups, retreats, mission opportunities, and special events.
• Actively implement and execute the scope and sequence of Christian Formation goals as set by Family Ministry and the Session when planning Middle School Ministry programming.
• Ensure throughout Middle School Ministry and establish accountability with Middle School staff and volunteers for adherence to ministry policies and procedures, including PCPC’s Abuse Awareness and Prevention Safety System, in coordination with the MinistrySafe Specialist.
• Steward budgets, resources, and ministry systems responsibly.
• Maintain timely communication, administrative excellence, and organizational effectiveness across all aspects of the ministry.
• Collaborate and partner with Youth Ministry staff to pursue shared ministry goals and cultivate a unified ministry culture.

Middle School Staff Leadership and Supervisory Responsibilities

• Supervise and support the Ministry Leader for Female Middle School Youth Discipleship and the Two-Year Middle School Youth Residents.
• Provide leadership and support for additional staff as assigned for Middle School.
• Responsibilities include performance management, coaching, staff development, succession planning, and oversight of Middle School Ministry.
• Recruit, supervise, coach, and develop Middle School Youth staff.
• Meet regularly with staff for focused discipleship, mentoring, theological development, ministry training, and performance coaching.
• Conduct annual performance reviews and monthly coaching conversations.
• Help staff discern their gifts and potential calling for future ministry leadership.

Teach God's Word

• Teach Scripture faithfully, consistently emphasizing the gospel and the centrality of Jesus Christ and provide theological, strategic, and spiritual leadership for all Middle School Ministry programming, including weekly Sunday morning class, small groups, and retreats.
• Help students understand, love, and apply God’s Word to their everyday lives.
• Ensure all teaching, curriculum, and discipleship environments are biblically faithful, Christ-centered, and aligned with PCPC doctrine and the Westminster Confession of Faith.

Student Discipleship

• Lead a relational ministry that intentionally pursues students through church gatherings, school visits, extracurricular events, and everyday life.
• Prioritize spiritual formation in the lives of students, encouraging gospel conversations, evangelism and spiritual growth.
• Build a ministry culture that demonstrates genuine love for all students, engaging across different personalities, backgrounds, interests, and levels of spiritual maturity.

Volunteer Leadership

• Recruit, train, and shepherd volunteers who serve within the Middle School Ministry.
• Create a culture where volunteers are equipped and empowered to make disciples.
• Facilitate volunteer development opportunities that deepen biblical understanding, ministry effectiveness, and relational engagement with students.
• Foster healthy communication, encouragement, and partnership among volunteers and staff.

Partner with Parents and the Broader Church

• Build meaningful relationships with parents and equip them as the primary spiritual shepherds in their children's lives.
• Communicate consistently with families regarding ministry opportunities, discipleship resources, and student needs.
• Collaborate with other ministries and church leaders to support the broader mission of PCPC.
• Cultivate a ministry environment that reflects the unity and mission of the church as a whole.

Education and Experienced Preferred

• Bachelor's Degree required.
• Demonstrated commitment to historic Reformed theology, Presbyterian doctrine, and the mission of PCPC.
• Active membership in a local church and willingness to transfer membership to PCPC upon hire.
• Minimum of two years of student ministry leadership experience, preferably in middle school ministry.
• Demonstrated experience leading teams, mentoring youth, and teaching Scripture.
