Purpose of Job

Park Cities Presbyterian Church has played a vital role in the area of church planting over the past 25 years. The Pastor of Church Planting will be tasked with continuing to champion this cause at PCPC while charting a course for our future. The Pastor of Church Planting, in coordination with other aspects of PCPC’s Missions efforts, will seek to develop individuals for the work of church planting, develop the church planting that is done within PCPC’s current church planting networks, i.e., Southwest Church Planting Network (SWCPN), North Texas Presbytery (NTP), and Mission to North America (MNA), with great stewardship and faithfulness, and lead us into healthy church planting as we trust God to plant churches out of PCPC.


Alignment with Mission and Vision
PCPC’s Church Planting Ministry exists to extend the transforming presence of the Kingdom of the Lord Jesus Christ by joining God in the formation of individuals for church planting and setting direction for church planting at and through PCPC. This involves knowing what skills and experiences are needed for those who will embark on the journey of church planting and knowing how to facilitate adult discipleship in those areas.

Individual Job Responsibilities

Southwest Church Planting Network (50%)

  • Be the lead catalyst for the team of church planting coordinators for the Southwest Church Planting Network (SWCPN)

    • Coordinate monthly calls for the coordinator team of the SWCPN
    • Organize quarterly in-person meetings for the SWCPN coordinator team
    • Plan and execute annual network-wide summit
  • Provide vision and leadership for the SWCPN administrator, ensuring the successful communication of the network. This includes sharing what the Lord has done with the SWCPN Executive Committee, with Mission to North America Committees from the participating Presbyteries, and with various member churches of the network in a fruitful and timely manner.

  • Church Planting Coordination for North Texas Presbytery (NTP) through SWCPN

    • Actively participate in the NTP MNA Committee
    • Onboard churches from NTP into the SWCPN model
    • Be a spokesperson for the SWCPN to NTP
    • Provide coaching twice monthly for SWCPN church planters
    • Recruit new church planters for NTP
    • Provide ongoing training for church planters
    • Provide recruiting toward renewal cohorts through a partnership with Anago

PCPC Church Planting Residency (50%)

  • Create a development plan for taking residents from pre-seminary interest to being sent out by PCPC as a church planter.
  • Coordinate with existing Missions efforts (Evangelism, Student Ministry, Mercy & Justice, Faith & Work) to create development opportunities for Church Planting Residents.
  • Network in Dallas to develop strategic priorities in church planting.
  • Develop relationships with seminaries to create a pipeline of students who are interested in pursuing church planting.

Education and Experienced Preferred

Fifteen years of ministry experience in teaching and training others in the area of church planting is essential. Seminary degree required. Ordination in the PCA preferred. Must meet all requirements for a pastor set forth in the Book of Church Order for the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA). Knowledge of a vast array of ministry experiences internationally and domestically. Proficient in Microsoft Office.

Follows up with others to ensure they are on track to meet ministry and project goals.
  • Overall Strategic Focus - Aligns and integrates ideas, initiatives, and objectives with PCPC's vision. Evaluates the impact on all ministry and service areas of the church.
  • Provides & Exemplifies Ministry Team Leadership - Provides biblical effective leadership, and cares for the spiritual needs of team members. Develops and articulates the ministry vision, outcomes, and individual member contributions. Leads through change and adversity, builds consensus when appropriate, and motivates and encourages others. After wise counsel and prayer, makes the tough call when needed with peace and conviction.
  • Judgment and Decision Making - Able to recognize problems, gather all the facts, sort through complex issues with prayer and wisdom, and seek input and counsel from others. Able to make difficult decisions and communicate decisions directly to all involved parties in a timely manner.
